Melancholy
the in-between feeling / neither here
nor there / the taste of butterscotch
candies / found in the bowl at the
library / “take as many as you need”
/ but you don’t really need them / do
you? / you take one anyway / giving
your hands something to do / the
color grey as you look out the window
/ emptiness in the sky / the waiting
for something / whatever that
something is / the sound of static on
the TV / the pixels shaking back and
forth / the air is thick / melancholy
has never been easy to swallow.
